filmWelcome to Fir Tree Farm...... alan and edwina

farm house Fir Tree Farm 1704 stoneis a 35 hectare family farm run by Alan and Edwina Abbott who as their main philosophy, place an emphasis on Conservation and the Environment. The farm itself has a long history, the farmhouse itself dating back to 1704 and thus being granted Grade II listing.Built from local sandstone it is a traditional four bay Lancashire farmhouse and features in several architectural guides.

The farm started to diversify in 1998 when the first four hectares from over twelve of native species woodland was planted. The woodland which features chain saw sculptures, a willow tunnel and a wildlife pond all have public access via permissible paths. A Countryside Stewardship Scheme is incorporated into the Farm which is aimed at the preservation of native species such as Brown Hare, Grey Partridge, and Skylark. Make sure you visit the 'Woodland Walks' page to find out more about how to see this feature. Among Stewardship options are a wildflower meadow, pollen and nectar mix and bird seed mixture areas. In addition there is also a willow bed which is used by willow artist Alexandra James of 'Willoweve', who is based in one of the farm buildings. 'Sow & Grow Organics' managed by Jenny Hall & Keith Griggs also operate from the farm (see 'Contact Us' for their website). Indeed, they run an organic box scheme and also provide surplus vegetables for the farm shop. All visitors will find our Farm Shop and Seasons Café & Restaurant located in the Barn which is also a listed building and has been renovated to reflect the atmosphere of the farm. Apart from an area of refreshment and our farm products visitors will find the local crafts on display.farmshop
